What exactly is ‘Anti-Botox’ make-up?
Anti-Botox, ‘Botox-resistant’ or ‘anti-filler’ make-up all mean the same thing. It is a trend in which TikTok users embrace their full range of facial movements and wrinkles while creating fun and abstract make-up looks.
The way the look is achieved is by scrunching up parts of your face to make wrinkles visible and then covering them with make-up. When unscrunched, an abstract design is revealed – a technique those with Botox or fillers are unable to do due to the tightness and wrinkle-free skin.
This technique sparked a surge of users recreating the look, especially after the premiere of the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film, which inspired a lip design that is reminiscent of the main character. Jeffree Star, known for having lip fillers, also attempted to replicate the style but struggled to achieve the same effect due to his previous fillers.
Some TikTok videos have gained over 2 million views, including a video by makeup artist Hello Adri, which has amassed over 2.3 million views and 392,000 likes.
How you can incorporate it into your everyday look
Have your eyes be the focus of your look: make your eyes the focal point of your look by enhancing their natural beauty with soft, neutral tones. Choosing subtle shades for your eyes creates an understated, approachable style that’s perfect for everyday wear. For a more defined effect, opt for colours that complement your skin tone, making sure they’re visible enough to highlight and accentuate the natural lines and contours of your eyes.
Quirky lip designs: if you would rather have the design on your lips, you could opt for warmer colours, rather than ones that are contrasting. You could use the same colour, but in different shades, this way the design is still abstract but less invasive. Rosy pinks, corals, nudes and even red berry tones are great for everyday wear. To seal in the design, remember to top off the lips with a gloss.
How do I recreate the look?
To achieve this look, one technique is to scrunch the area of your face where you want the design, apply makeup, and then gently wipe away the excess. When you relax your expression, the abstract line design will appear naturally in the creases of your skin.
Another method involves first applying a base colour to the area, scrunching your face, and then applying a darker shade over it. Once you release the expression, you’ll reveal a unique two-toned design that highlights the natural contours of your skin.
