As we head into the festive season, it’s time to get our homes ready to welcome friends and family for celebrations.
Amidst all the preparations, one area that should not be overlooked is the guest bedroom. Creating a cosy and inviting retreat for visitors is essential to ensuring their comfort. In fact, Google searches for “guest bedroom decor” have risen by 130% across the UK over the past month, reflecting how eager Brits are to impress their guests with a thoughtfully designed space.
With this in mind, experts from luxury bed retailer, Comodo Living have shared their top tips for preparing this room ahead of Christmas.
Alex Francis, Head of Operations at Comodo Living comments,
“In the lead-up to Christmas, many people focus on communal spaces like the living room, dining room, or kitchen, ensuring these areas create a pleasant atmosphere where guests can relax. However, it’s equally important to consider the guest bedroom, as this is where your visitors will retreat to unwind after the celebrations. Optimising its comfort and functionality can make all the difference in their experience.”
Tips for maximising comfort in your guest room
The experts recommend investing in high-quality bedding and consider the bed’s placement as a priority. A good night’s sleep is vital, so opt for soft, breathable linens, a luxury mattress, and plush pillows to ensure your guests are well-rested.
Position the bed where it feels cosy but doesn’t impede movement. This includes moving away from windows to avoid draughts and position near a plug socket for a bedside lamp. If possible, leave enough space for easy access to both sides of the bed and do not back up to a radiator.
Secondly, if your space allows it, add a small seating area for extra comfort and functionality. Whether it’s a cosy armchair or a blanket box to perch on, this touch offers your guests a private space to relax, read, or simply unwind. Even in smaller rooms, a foldable chair or footstool can add flexibility without taking up too much space.
Alongside this, focus on practical details, such as accessibility for charging phones and storing clothes and luggage. A universal charging station or a couple of spare cables placed on the nightstand shows attention to your guests’ needs. Wall hooks, over-the-door hangers, or a small wardrobe can provide space for their clothes and bags. Make sure the room feels organised and uncluttered so your guests can store their belongings easily.
Finally, prepare the room with thoughtful and useful amenities such as towels, toiletries, and a few home comforts. Fold a set of fresh towels on the bed and offer toiletries such as shampoo, soap, and toothpaste. A jug of water adds a luxurious touch, ensuring guests feel pampered and cared for throughout their stay at your home.
