The best time to book a holiday revealed – Plan your next holiday with these winter secrets only travel experts know about

Winter isn’t just a season for cosying up by the fire. It’s also the ideal time for eager travellers to plan their vacations for the upcoming year, a seasoned travel expert at White House Glamping is saying.

“As the holiday season winds down, people tend to be low on money and the demand for travel decreases, creating the perfect opportunity to lock in deals for future getaways,” says Richard Edwards, Managing Director of White House Glamping. “By keeping an eye on different promotions during the winter months, travellers can secure their dream holidays for next year while enjoying significant savings.”

Here, Edwards uses his years of travel industry experience to give his insights into why winter is the secret season of savings for booking a holiday.

Why Book in Winter?

Low Demand
Winter is traditionally a slower season for travel bookings, which means airlines, hotels, and tour operators usually lower their prices to attract early reservations. This creates a unique window for travellers to secure vacations at discounted rates before the rush of spring and summer.

“Consider saving up your funds for this time of year and dedicating your savings to a holiday instead of physical gifts”, says Edwards. “That way, you’ll be able to get the deals during a time of year when most people are penny pinching.”

Winter Sales and Early Bird Offers
A lot of travel companies offer exclusive winter sales, early-bird discounts, and promotional deals. By planning ahead and booking during these periods, travellers can access some of the best prices available, ensuring a stress-free start to their holiday planning.

Edwards says that a lot of these deals come around late November. The commercial tradition of Black Friday has turned into a multi-day affair with Cyber Monday being a great day to look on airline and hotel websites for promotional discounts.

This long weekend of sales begins the day after the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. which is always the third Thursday in November.

“To always be ready for these deals, keep a yearly reminder in your calendar for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday”, urges Edwards.

More Flexibility
Booking in the winter means you’re making plans several months in advance, allowing you to have more options for dates and accommodations. This allows you to have a broader choice of vacation spots and could even help you to grab a room in a nicer hotel than you expected.

“This flexibility not only helps with getting the perfect trip but also means avoiding the peak-season rush and inflated prices,” says Edwards.

Tips for Snagging the Best Deals

Monitor Travel Websites
Keep an eye on travel sites for flash deals and limited-time offers during the winter season. With some sites you can even save trips and get notified when prices drop, keeping you in the loop on when is the best time to buy.

Edwards says that another way to stay informed is to look at price predictors from websites like Hopper to make an informed decision about when to book.

Use Price Comparison Tools
There are several platforms out there that take pricing data from a range of different hotels, airlines, and vacation packages, and displays them side by side so you can find the best deal.

Using these platforms can save you lots of time and makes sure the price you pay is the lowest possible at that moment, without compromising the quality of the product.

“Using these tools is so easy that all good travellers should take the time to try one out and see what they can find”, says Edwards. “You never know what kind of deal one website is offering versus their competitors, especially during the holiday season.”

Consider Alternative Destinations
There are plenty of up and coming destinations, mostly undiscovered by tourists, where you can find major discounts and lower prices on accommodations. If you’re looking for a Mediterranean getaway, try exploring cheaper destinations like Albania instead of Greece or Italy.

“When you look at less expensive and less touristy destinations during the wintertime, you not only find cheaper prices but you can also find destinations that are much more charming than big European hotspots,” adds Edwards.

Richard Edwards, Managing Director of White House Glamping, commented:
“As the cold weather takes over your life, you’ll likely not be able to contain your excitement for next summer’s holiday season. If you can’t wait to start planning your summer, the good news is: you don’t have to. Winter is a great time to start planning your next adventure and get a jump on the best hotels and accommodations before anyone else.

“With lower demand, exclusive early-bird offers, and greater flexibility in dates and accommodations, you can secure fantastic deals before prices climb. By booking now, you’re not only locking in savings but also ensuring the best availability for your dream vacation next year”.
